Meet the Designer

I'm Mary Frances Rodriguez and my art education along with appreciation of color and design began early in life as my mother was an accomplished artist. It was with tough love that she wouldn't allow me or my siblings to use coloring books saying we were perfectly capable of creating our own designs. As it turns out, she was right and my formal art education led me to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Fine Art at the University of Mobile in Alabama.

I aspired to move into commercial art as my career but while continuing my education in the liberal arts masters program at Springhill College (Mobile, AL), my passion for rug design was uncovered. I've always been drawn to bold colors and beautiful rug designs but taking a course focused on the arts in non-Western cultures lead me to design my own rugs.

 

My first original rug design was woven in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2007. What a thrill to see the smile broaden on my first client's face when he saw his custom design come to life as we unrolled the unique one-of-a-kind rug. 

 

Designing rugs was always a side hustle to my career in corporate marketing until July of 2017, when I decided to start my own business, Design52 Enterprises, LLC (D52). D52 offers a wide variety of creative services including marketing, event planning, custom rug design and private art classes. My work is limited only by the client's imagination and my personal goal is that each rug tells a story, each event creates happy memories, and every marketing project helps to ensure the success of my clients. 

The creative possibilities at D52 are endless.
